“LUSH! A Decade of Dance”
Saint Patrick's weekend Saturday 17th March 1996 saw the birth of arguably Ireland’s most influential House Club. Lush! @ The Kelly’s Complex in Portrush, County Antrim was born out of the ashes of the Legendary “Raves” @ Kelly’s which had ran their course from 1992……
After a 3 month closure for a complete top to bottom refurb including: New Sound, Lights, Toilets, Bars, Decor in fact anything that could be changed was changed!
The Opening Night was a capacity sell out, and that set the tone for 10 years of weekly parties that would put some of the so called “World Famous Brands” to shame…..
With Resident DJ/Promoter Col Hamilton at the helm & a music policy of House/Prog/Tech & Trance the Lush! Dancefloor has rocked to pretty much every big name DJ in the world……From Sasha & Digweed to Roger Sanchez & Erick Morillo, from Paul Van Dyk & Tiesto to Carl Cox & Mauro Picotto and 100’s in between, also along the way giving much needed exposure to a wealth of up & coming UK & Local DJs, many of whom have gone on to greater things…
Lush! Was the first club in Ireland to host BBC Radio 1’s Legendary “Essential Mix Live” Show with Pete Tong & Col Hamilton in Sept 1997. Since then Lush! Has held many more live essential mixes featuring the likes of: Sasha, Darren Emerson, Paul Van Dyk, Dave Seaman, John Cecchini, Col Hamilton & Judge Jules. Lush! have also hosted Arena’s at Homelands, Creamfields & Planet Love Festivals across Ireland, and at each festival literally stolen the show in terms of décor & crowd reaction….
Lush! Is the only club In Ireland to be nominated for Muzik Magazine’s Club of the Year Award 3 times and has been voted “All Ireland Club of the Year” and BBM Magazine Club of the Year on many occasion’s over the past decade. In 2006 Lush! Was voted 24th Best club in the world by DJ magazine which is an awesome achievement!
Now in it’s Eleventh year and with 3 further re-fits since 1996 Lush! Is still at the top of it’s game. Boasting the Only EAW Avalon Sound System in Ireland (the same system used at Space-Miami & Avalon L.A.) and award winning Décor Lush! Still runs Every Saturday to an adoring & loyal crowd of clubbers who feel as if they have grown up with the club, and many of them have!!
